Authorities mentioned they were alerted by a individual who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior official said the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
