Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
