The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Here's a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like typical biological terror, but within Together lies a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the countryside for her career. A familiar narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the protagonists tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence begins influencing the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing elements of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something horrific). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and presents them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

The couple grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. At their core, they still love one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu now.
